KUCHING: The Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC), Sarawak secretary has likened the latest demand to deduct allowances from employees working from home as typical of lazy and convenient human resource (HR) management.

“They seem to approach HR issues as a zero-sum game and employees as costs to be cut,” said Andrew Lo.

He said employees, working from home, had brought so much savings to employers such as office rental, utilities cost, office furniture and others.

“Employers and governments all over the world are moving to off-site employment and WFH (work from home) and we need to encourage employees to do so as well.”

He also said that the Malaysian Employers Federation’s demand would only make employees worry about allowances (and eventually wages) if they work from home.

“Another example of cutting their nose to spite their faces,” Lo added.
