KUCHING: Sarawak have issued an early warning to the rest of the contingents for the 2022 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Their Muay Thai exponents have done well at the National Junior Championship and Pre-Sukma that took place in Kuantan, Pahang last weekend.

Sarawak took home five gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

Maurien Hii Sie Lin (D30 Miri Muay Thai Club) fought her way to gold in the women’s senior category.

Mikhail Ghazali (Rentap Muay Thai), Texas Jeremy (SS Fighter), Mohd Syameil (Sting Muay Thai) and Nur Haina Aisyah (Meranek Pheonix Muay Thai) followed suit, bagging gold in their respective categories.

Meanwhile, Khairul Aiman ​​(PS Muay Thai Bintulu) and Nur Azirah Mohamad Yudi (Sting Muay Thai) each contributed a silver in the senior category while Mohd Hakim (Sting Muay Thai) grabbed a silver in the youth category.

The bronze was contributed by Jordan Bokoet Herman (Bau Muay Thai Club), Bryan Anderson Jeffery (Bau Muay Thai Club), Mohd Hasbullah (Meranek Pheonix Muay Thai), Mohd Izad (SS Fighter) and Mohd Haziq (Sting Muay Thai).

Other exponents who took part were Mohd Hairol (Sting Muaythai Club), Ayu Adiqa Azmi (Muay Thai Kenyalang), Angellicia Elicia Lee (SS Fighter) and Dylan Casey Daniel (D30 Miri Muay Thai Club).

“Congratulations to all our exponents. This tournament is one of the warm-ups for our exponents before facing the Sukma Games,” said Sarawak Muay Thai Association president Jumaat Ibrahim.

“This tournament is also used to gauge the skills of the exponents before we come up with the final list  for the Sukma.”

He also expressed his thanks to Sarawak Sports Corporation, Sarawak Sports Council and coaches for their continuous support to the development programme implemented by the association to elevate the sport in Sarawak.

He praised the Muay Thai clubs here who came up with their own initiative to sponsor their exponents to participate in the tournament.

Apart from that, Jumaat also thanked Malaysian Muay Thai Association for sponsoring Sarawak exponents to participate in the same tournament for the purpose of selection for the world championships.
