SIBU: Sarawak must continue to strive diligently to develop and add value to its resources, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said that during his recent visit to Sydney, Australia, where he was invited to speak about Sarawak’s green economy and the new economy at the ASEAN Australia Business Forum 2024, the feedback from leaders at the forum was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing admiration for Sarawak’s forward-thinking policies.
“Alhamdulillah, they will be coming to Sarawak to observe firsthand the policies towards environmental sustainability and the use of new green energy,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the Sarawak-level National Day Celebration Assembly at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here today (Aug 31).
He added that Sarawak has clear and concrete policies, as outlined in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), and he is confident that with the approach outlined in PCDS 2030, Sarawak will become a developed and progressive state, socially inclusive and sustainable in terms of environmental preservation.
Abang Johari added that he is grateful that Sarawak is a peaceful state, and its people always strive to maintain unity despite differences in religion and race.
“Although we sometimes have differing opinions, there has never been a significant racial or religious conflict that could cause division within Sarawak’s diverse society.
“Sarawak’s potential to become a high-income, advanced economy by 2030 is very promising, and all Sarawakians must work together to realise this dream. Division due to racial or religious issues will undoubtedly hinder the ongoing efforts and be detrimental to all of us,” he said.
