KUCHING: Sarawak should have its own National Department for Arts and Culture (JKKN) Complex, says Sarawak JKKN director Noor Seela Noor Sulaiman.

She noted that Sarawak, alongside Selangor and Johor, currently does not have a dedicated JKKN Complex.

“We have the land to build the complex, we just do not have the proper allocation for such development. We are now working with the federal government in getting the allocation.

“We are also working with the federal government administration here (Kuching) in identifying the suitable land for the development.

“One thing is for sure, the complex will be somewhere within the city.”

Noor Seela said this when met by reporters after officiating the Arts and Culture Marketing and Sponsorship Workshop closing ceremony at Auditorium, Jabatan Belia dan Sukan Sarawak, here on Tuesday (July 16).

“The cost for developing the complex might be higher because we would also be looking at developing the infrastructure in order for us to be able to implement arts and culture programmes here.

“For instance, the auditorium, dance studio, music studio, seminar room, and others.”

She said the workshop is for participants, most specifically non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for arts and culture, to increase their knowledge in marketing and searching for sponsors for various programmes being implemented, alongside providing exposure on the strategies in getting sponsorships from corporate companies.

“The main objective is to disseminate knowledge to the NGOs and cultural arts practitioners, providing them with knowledge and methods to promote programmes through interpersonal skills and creative skills for implementing programme promotions.

“It also serves as the best platform for NGOs to discuss and share ideas to find innovative approaches and methods for them to seek strategic partners and sponsors to implement programmes with sufficient funding, but with high impact value in promoting cultural arts programmes, particularly in Sarawak.”

She added that the workshop is also an important step in the efforts to support and empower cultural arts practitioners in Sarawak.

“With the skills and knowledge gained from this workshop, we hope that participants will be more confident and capable of promoting their works and attracting more sponsors to add value and impact to cultural arts programs.

“This will further enhance the quality of the cultural arts industry in Sarawak.”

Also present during the ceremony were Sarawak Media Group chief executive officer Khusairi Abang and other distinguished guests.
