KUCHING: It is crucial to retain highly qualified technical workers in the state, said Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcom Mussen Lamoh.
He said that it is important for Sarawak to retain them and to meet the needs of workers in the relevant industries.
“This is important for related industries because what can be a problem here is that when technology develops, other countries will also need investment into their part of the world.
“For that, it is very important that we build a good ecosystem for employees so that they are comfortable working.
“Even if they work in the bottom line, at least they have comfort in terms of accommodation, social life and so on throughout their work,” he said during a press conference after the launching of the Premier of Sarawak Industry Excellence Awards (PSIEA) 2023 at the Grand Margherita Hotel here today.
He also said that the state needed to be prepared to face progress, especially through new economies such as hydrogen and others.
“We believe this new economy will make Sarawak or Malaysia the preferred investment destination in the future. So, this is our big task,” he said.
Meanwhile responding to reporters’ questions on whether the state government will change the policy for bringing West Malaysians and foreign workers to Sarawak, he said that the policy is currently being studied.
