No word from Putrajaya on relocation of High Court Registry: CM
MIRI: Putrajaya has not consulted Sarawak on its move to transfer the headquarters of the Registry of the High Court of Sarawak and Sabah, effective this May 1.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed this when approached by a group of local reporters after the launch of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) zone 13B (Piasau, Pujut and Senadin) yesterday afternoon at Eastwood Valley and Country Club here.
Asked on the state government’s next move, the chairman of Gabungan Parti Sarawak, replied, “We (the Sarawak government) will issue a statement on the matter soon.”
Since the formation of Malaysia, the registry has been located in Kuching, so the sudden move by Putrajaya was a shock for the state’s legal fraternities, lawmakers and politicians, and the public in general.
On the launch of GPS zone 13B, Abang Johari said with the change in the political landscape since the 14th general election, it is time for GPS to start a new era.
“The establishment of GPS is timely,” he said.
“It is a very bold move. I strongly believe we can stand on our own feet,” he added.
“GPS will defend the rights of Sarawakians,” to applause from close to 3,000 members of GPS’s component parties (PBB, SUPP, PDP and PRS) who had begun to arrive for the event as early as 9am for the official launch at 3pm.
Earlier in the day, Abang Johari was at Kampung Pintasan Tiris, Bekenu for “Makan Tahun 2019” (Annual Dinner 2019).
Also present during the event were Abang Jo’s deputies chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, PRS women’s chief Datuk Seri Doris Brodie, and Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
