KUCHING: Sarawak needs more cops who possess integrity and discipline, says Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

He was commenting on the issue of nine policemen, who are under investigation for extortion, being transferred  to Sabah and Sarawak.

Snowdan, who is Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, urged decision-makers to be more considerate.

“Of all the 11 states in West Malaysia, why do the nine problematic policemen have to be sent to Sarawak to serve their disciplinary punishment?

“What good would it do for Sarawak besides being perceived as a dumping ground for problematic staff,” he said.

“Let’s set the record straight, any civil servant working in West Malaysia and has a dodgy record should not be dumped here. We are not a rehab centre.

“These civil servants don’t deserve rehabilitation. Why not terminate their services?”

He reiterated that Sarawak would welcome officers with quality, integrity, are results oriented and highly disciplined to propel and accelerate the development of the state.

“On a brighter note, it would be better for the said federal agency to liaise with Sarawak authorities prior to making such a decision.”
