KUCHING: The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) is collaborating with the Sabah Environmental Protection Board (EPD) to enhance environmental management initiatives, according to Sarawak environmental quality controller Jack Liam.

He said that the state is not exempt in facing global environmental crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

“As such, as an environmental agency, it is our responsibility to empower environmental management in safeguarding sustainability.”

He said this while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 7th Natural Resources and Environment Board-Environment Protection Department Sabah (NREB-EPD) Environmental Dialogue here on Thursday (Jan 18).

Furthermore, he said the collaboration with Sabah EPD is an important step to address with environmental issues collectively.

“The organisation of this dialogue series is intended as a platform for all relevant agencies and ministries to gather to discuss current challenges and environmental issues.

“At the same time, the platform can be used for all agencies and ministries involved to formulate strategies to preserve the environment by sharing experience in management and law enforcement.”

The dialogue, themed Empowering Environnmental Stewardship for A Sustainable Way of Life’ called on all parties involved to work together in leading the country’s development towards green energy.

“The application of this theme in our initiatives has the potential to make a significant contribution to a healthier and more resilient environment.

“It emphasises the importance of collective action, aligning our efforts with the environment, and fulfilling our role as managers dedicated to sustainable practices.”

Jack added that in addition to sharing ideas on environmental management, this platform also aimed to strengthen the relationship between Sarawak and Sabah’s environmental agencies through informal activities held throughout the dialogue.
