SIBU: A total of 422 all categories of Nurses and Allied healthcare personnel attended Sarawak nursing conference 2023 themed ‘Nurturing Holistic Care Paradigm’ here today.

Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the aim of the conference was to reinforce on the importance of providing holistic healthcare to the community.

He noted that the conference very much focused on four items, namely Acute Hospital Care, Community Care, Palliative Care, and also Paediatric Care.

“I hope that all the participants at the end of the conference would be able to have a greater understanding on nurses’ roles in providing holistic healthcare.

“I also hope that you will able to review your current practices in providing holistic healthcare and able to participate in all efforts in improving current nursing practices,” he said.

This was said in his speech read by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng during the opening ceremony of Sarawak nursing conference 2023 in a renowned hotel here yesterday.

The conference was organised by Sarawak Nursing Professional Association (SNPA) and supported by Sibu Divisional Health Office (DHO), Hospital Sibu and Business Events Sarawak.

On SNPA, Dr Sim noted that the association was formed in 2012 by group of enthusiastic nurses who were passionate to unite Sarawak nurses together for their professional development as well as to serve the Sarawak community better.

“At the moment this Association has 11 branches in Sarawak with 4,800 nurses registered as members,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Nursing Conference 2023 organising chairman, Niyom Peter Angkau said that the conference is an opportunity for them to stay up to date with the latest nursing skills, knowledge, and practices to deliver the best possible patient quality care at all times.

“The Malaysia Ministry of Health has been instrumental in providing accessible, equitable, and high-quality healthcare to its citizens.

However, we are also aware of the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, aging population, and rising healthcare costs.

“Therefore, adopting a holistic approach to healthcare that addresses the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of our patients is vital,” she said.
