KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been asked to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations made regarding the sex video that recently went viral.
“Malaysians will now bear witness to Latheefa Koya’s first real test in her capacity as the MACC chief commissioner.”
Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) secretary David Hii Chin Loung said this when commenting on Santubong Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz’s sworn confession regarding the viral sex video on Facebook.
“On June 11, several video clips and photographs were posted on a website and virally shared through WhatsApp, which implicated a minister and on Wednesday, a shocking allegation was made by Haziq stating that it was him in the videos,” he said yesterday.
Hii said Malaysians were no stranger to “negative campaigning” or more commonly known as “dirty politics”, which had been used on many occasions to diminish a person’s character.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the SPA condemns the method of ‘dirty politics’ as we do not condone such actions and we condemn such methods entirely.
“Malaysia needs to move forward through ‘positive campaigning’, which is a strategy focused on the politician’s perceived positive attitude and policies,” he stated.
Hii said the majority of Malaysians were still living in hardship and “we ask the politicians to focus on the people and find solutions to address the ever increasing cost of living”.
“We can all agree that the incident that went viral will not benefit the people of Malaysia in any way.
“Regrettably, Malaysia has faced her fair share of scandals over the last few years. Do we want to assist in the dissemination of another scandal, which may affect a person’s character and morality without it being proven through a proper process of the rule of law?” he questioned.
“SPA urges the immediate cease and desist of the videos, photographs and speculations. We must have faith in the authorities and let them conduct a thorough investigation first,” he added.
“However, the shocking allegations made by Haziq pertaining to the alleged corruption cannot be ignored in view of public interest.
“The Pakatan Harapan government had pledged that they are committed to fighting corruption and cleansing Malaysia of corruption. SPA calls on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to conduct a thorough investigation of the allegations that implicate a minister,” he said.
