KUCHING: The Sarawak Pay e-wallet application will go international soon.
SiliconNet Technologies Sdn Bhd’s general manager Chin Zan Kiun said China’s UnionPay could be used in the Sarawak Pay application soon.
“Technical works have been completed and we have submitted them to Bank Negara for approval,” he said during the JOM DIGITAL @ Sarawak Productive third series programme organised by Nexus Productivity Retail and Food & Beverages and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Sarawak on Tuesday (June 16).
Chin said once approved, Sarawak Pay could be used in countries such as China, Singapore and other parts of the world.
“For instance, in Malaya, if a trader uses UnionPay, then Sarawak Pay can be used as well by just scanning the QR code provided,” he said.
He added that the use of Sarawak Pay was increasing, even in Malaya.
“Among the merchants from Malaya are KK Supermart and Guardian and many more are now registered with Sarawak Pay,” he said.
Meanwhile, the general manager of Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) Dr Zaidi Razak said as of June, the number of registered users of Sarawak Pay was 369,393 while the number of registered merchant was 52,305.
“The number of transactions was RM9.5 million while the amount of transaction was RM375 million,” he said.
Zaidi added a few more new merchants had signed up with Sarawak Pay, and among them were major supermarkets such as Everrise, Unaco, GSM, Emart, Choice supermarket; Good Shepard Tuition Centre; Roxy Hotel and Apartment; Dyslexia Association of Sarawak; Ting Pharmacy; food courts such as Premier Food Republic, Food Gallery, and Spring Food Bazaar.
Others included Petronas and Shell petrol stations; Normal Medical Specialist Centre; Lea Centre; Timberland Medical Centre; Masjid Darulhana Patingan; youbeli.com and Sarawak State Mosques Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS).
