KUCHING: The Sarawak Civil Defence Force has seized various brands of cigarettes worth RM 75,240 in ‘Op Libas’ which was conducted in Serian yesterday afternoon.
Commanding Officer of the Eleventh Battalion, Supt Rosdi Inai, said acting on intelligence work and information received, a team of PGA officers and staff together with members of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided a premises at 3 pm.
“Further checks found 418 cartons of cigarettes of various brands which had not been approved for customs tax.
“So far, no arrests have been made as when the checks were carried out, there was no one present at the premises as they were believed to have run away,” he said in a statement here today.
Rosdi said the cigarettes were believed to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country for sale in the local market.
He added that the confiscated items have been handed over to the Serian District Police Headquarters for further investigations. – Bernama
