MIRI: The Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leadership council (MPN) will not be given full power to decide the candidates for the next election.
In this matter, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim prefers the council to engage all branch leaders to discuss the appointment of potential candidates.
He said this was to ensure that the opinions at the branch level are heard, which would enable PKR to choose the best candidates to represent the people.
“I would like the state council to submit a written suggestion from each branch for further review. If a proposal is rejected, I want to know the reason. Sarawak can propose the candidates but the final decision must be made at the federal level,” he said during Sarawak PKR Convention at Pullman Hotel, yesterday.
Regarding party leaders or elected representatives who neglect or forget their responsibilities, Anwar said he would not hesitate to get rid of them.
As for the party’s struggle, he said every leader, elected representative and member should support it so that the party could protect the people’s rights and take care of their socio-economic well-being.
“When you become a YB, have a rank or position, or become a minister, even the way you walk changes. When your income is high, you should help the party divisions and branches…that’s our role. Any leader or elected representative who becomes big-headed or too big for his/her shoes will be kicked out,” he said.
