ASAJAYA: The Sarawak government is actively considering the establishment of a direct flight route from Fujian Province to Sarawak as part of its efforts to enhance tourism activities between the two regions.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, was proud of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and hoped for close cooperation with Fujian Province, China.
Highlighting the significance of the proposed direct flight route, Abdul Karim added, “One of our plans is to open a direct flight route from Fujian to Sarawak, which we will diligently pursue to facilitate easier travel for tourists from Fujian to our state.”
He said this during a press conference held after attending the Hari Raya open house at the Asajaya Sports Complex today.
Furthermore, he said that the recently signed MoU, which took place last Saturday would provide global exposure to the unique offerings of Sarawak.
“I believe that the cooperation, led by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Fujian People’s Congress, Zhou Zyui, will generate significant interest among the people of Fujian, thereby indirectly increasing the number of visitors to Sarawak.”
In terms of current tourist numbers, Abdul Karim said that Sarawak has already welcomed one million foreign visitors from January to March this year.
