KUCHING: Sarawak is ready to roll out the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to medical frontliners and high-risk vulnerable persons above the age of 60 in the next few days.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this was with the additional Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines which had arrived recently.
“We are also ready to roll out Sinovac as soon as the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) of the Health Ministry (MoH) (decides on the policy) as we have about 140,000 doses of Sinovac in storage,” he said in a Facebook post today (Oct 12).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor lauded the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recommendation on Monday that people with weaker immune systems should be offered an additional dose of all authorised Covid-19 vaccines.
“Thank you very much to WHO medical experts for this decision based on science.
“Looking forward to our Malaysian medical experts at NPRA of MoH to review the policy of approving Sinovac/Sinopharm as booster doses for over 60-year-olds, in addition to Pfizer, the only one approved so far,” said Dr Sim.
