MIRI: Sarawak is rapidly gaining international recognition as a key energy hub especially in the green energy sector.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim noted that the international communities are constantly focusing on the state with regards to this matter.

“Any country looking for an energy hub that can supply green energy, alternative energy, or green hydrogen, won’t look at other states – they will focus directly on Sarawak.

“Therefore, Sarawak has the potential to have a strong economy in the future.”

The Prime Minister said this when officiating at the 2024 Rakyat Madani Sarawakku Sayang programme held at Boulevard Miri Shopping Mall on Saturday.

Anwar also praised the Sarawak government for its steadfastness in positioning the state as an energy leader.

“With incoming investments, Sarawak, including Miri, has now established itself as a crucial energy hub for our region,” he said.

He said that is why he supports the leadership’s desire for stable politics and a focus on development.

Citing his international visits, including to Saudi Arabia, Germany, Japan, and a recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Vladivostok, Anwar assured that he did not to miss out the opportunity to discuss the country’s development.

“Whenever we discuss energy or other national concerns, Sarawak is consistently highlighted and supported to achieve success,” he said.

On another note, he stressed the importance of stability and unity in governance to foster economic growth in the country.

“Sometimes, there are still desperate politicians. They see the economy growing, the ringgit strengthening, unemployment decreasing, job opportunities rising, and inflation more controlled, so their way out is to incite hatred between races and unrest due to religious differences.

“Therefore, we must set a good example. Who says there are no problems? There are. Who says there are no issues between races, religions or states? There are.

“But these issues can be resolved through dialogue, mutual trust and respect. That is why politics in the peninsula sometimes heats up to a level that is not beneficial. Alhamdulillah, the majority of the people still choose the better path,” he said.

He pointed out that it is through the right path, only then people can achieve ‘Segulai Sejalai’ (Together in Unity).

“Two days ago, Amazon Web Services (AWS) held a banquet to launch their programme, where they will invest RM26 billion in Malaysia over five or seven years.

“When Jeff Johnson, one of its top managers for Asia, spoke to me, he said the first factor was his confidence that the political situation here is stable.
“But as I always stress, stability is not for us to abuse power, or enrich ourselves. This stability is achieved by introducing good policies – Madani economic policies, energy transition policies, digital transformation policies, industrial plans, semiconductors,” he said.
