Sarawak records 14 cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 14 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,180.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said these cases were recorded in Kuching (seven), Sibu (three), Sri Aman (two), Miri (one) and Pusa (one).

“Case 1,167 is a local Sarawakian man who returned from United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Jan 3 via Dubai and arrived in Kuching on Jan 4.

“Upon arrival, he underwent quarantine at a designated hotel and was found positive on Jan 6,” he told a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update here on Thursday (Jan 7).

Cases 1,168; 1,169; 1,170; 1,178; and 1,179 are five Sarawakians aged 24 to 56 who are close contacts and family members of Case 1,158.

Case 1,174 is a Sarawakian man who underwent self-screening at a private hospital in Kuching and found positive for Covid-19 on Jan 6.

Except for Case 1,167, all cases were categorised as local infections and contact tracing is underway.

As for the three cases in Sibu, the first case (Case 1,171) is a local Sarawakian woman who returned from Johor via Sibu Airport on Jan 4. A worker in Singapore, she returned to Malaysia via Johor on Dec 10 and was found positive for the virus on Jan 6.

Case 1,172 is a local citizen who went back to his state of origin, Selangor, for holiday from Dec 19 and returned to Sibu on Jan 4.

Case 1,175 is a local Sarawakian woman who returned to the state from Kuala Lumpur via Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Dec 29 before continuing her flight journey to Sibu on the same day.

Meanwhile, Case 1,173 reported in Pusa is a local Sarawakian woman who returned from Johor via Sibu Airport on Jan 4 and was found positive on Jan 6. She has shown signs and symptoms for the virus since Jan 2.

Case 1,176 reported in Miri is a local Sarawakian man who was detected via active case detection involving Bah Sayap Cluster. He is a close contact of Case 1,116.

The two cases in Sri Aman — Cases 1,177 and 1,180 — are two Sarawakians who were screened after showing signs and symptoms of Covid-19. Both initially received treatment at a government clinic in Sri Aman on Jan 6 and were positive the next day before being admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Uggah also reported two new recoveries and discharged cases, bringing the total number to 1,085 or 91.95 percent.

As of today, 76 cases were still receiving treatment at hospitals, namely 36 at SGH, 18 at Sibu Hospital, 16 at Miri Hospital, five at Bintulu Hospital and one at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

On the other hand, 43 new person under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported with 16 awaiting lab test results.
