Sarawak records 146 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 146 new positive Covid-19 cases today, its consecutive second day of surpassing the three-digit mark.

Of these, 92 cases were reported in Sibu, Sebauh (20), Kanowit (12), Miri (11), Beluru (3), Kuching (3), Dalat (2), Saratok (1), Bintulu (1) dan Limbang (1).

In a statement today, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said this brought the total number of positive cases in the state thus far to 1,574.

In Sibu District, the 92 cases reported comprised 83 infections from the Pasai Cluster, eight detected from other screenings, and an individual who had returned from a high-risk Covid-19 area.

The 20 cases in Sebauh District were from the new Bukit Sekubong Cluster while the 12 cases in Kanowit District were from the Pasai Cluster.

As for the 11 cases reported in Miri, two were from the Bah Sayap Cluster, one from the Jelita Cluster, one was an individual who had returned from a high-risk Covid-19 area, and the other seven were detected through other screenings.

The three cases in Kuching District involved an infection from the Stutong Cluster, a symptomatic individual, and a close contact.

The three cases in Beluru District were close contacts, the two in Dalat District were from the Pasai Cluster, and the single case in Saratok District was an individual who had returned from a high-risk Covid-19 area.

Meanwhile, the single case reported in Bintulu District was an individual who had returned from overseas and the single case in Limbang District was a hospital referral case.

SDMC said 18 cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals – seven from Sibu Hospital, six from Bintulu Hospital and five from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 1,118 or 71.03 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak,” they said.

The total number of cases still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards was 435 as today (Jan 12) – 203 in Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital (133), SGH (77), and Bintulu Hospital (22).

“Today (Jan 12), 156 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases were reported and 12 PUI are still awaiting laboratory results,” said the committee.
