KUCHING: Sarawak registered one new fatality from Covid-19 and one new positive case on Sunday (July 26).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement, said the 589th case was a local 63-year-old woman from Samariang Baru, who had hypertension, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.
“The patient started having fever and cough on July 3 and sought treatment on July 9 but later, referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on the same day. “The RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) Covid-19 laboratory test found that she was positive.
“The patient’s condition deteriorated and she passed away on Sunday,” the statement said, adding that Sarawak’s Covid-19 death toll now stood at 19.
Meanwhile, the positive case is reported in SGH, thus increasing the cumulative total of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 650.
The case, who is a health worker, was detected through contact tracing from the Sentosa Cluster and is the 21st case in the cluster.
“The case had Nasopharyngeal and Oropharyngeal swabs taken on July 24 at a government health clinic in Kuching and the rT-PCR test was found positive for Covid-19 the following day (July 25).
“The case, who showed no signs or symptoms, was admitted to SGH on the same day for further treatment,” the statement said.
SDMC added that there were two new cases of recoveries or discharges from SGH, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 563, or 86.62 percent.
Sixty-eight individuals are still receiving treatment at hospital isolation wards while six new person under investigation (PUI) cases have been reported and five are still awaiting laboratory results.
Today, 39 person under surveillance (PUS) cases checked into hotels to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS at nine hotels to 605, while 19,118 PUS had completed their quarantine period.
