KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 222 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the state’s tally to 12,273.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 57 of these cases were recorded in Miri District, Sibu (38), Kuching (29), Bintulu (25), Betong (12), Meradong (12), Julau (10), Subis (nine), Kapit (seven), Song (seven), Samarahan (four), Saratok (two), Serian (two), Limbang (two), Bau (one), Kanowit (one), Mukah (one), Sarikei (one), Sebauh (one), and Telang Usan (one).
“Of the 222 new cases reported, 35 individuals or 15.76 percent had exhibited signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screening,” they said in a statement.
They informed that 168 cases detected consisted of individuals who had been directed to undergo quarantine at quarantine centres.
“These comprise 167 people who were identified as close contacts of positive Covid-19 cases and one individual who had just returned from a high-risk area (Import B),” they said.
On the overall summary of the 222 cases, the committee said 111 cases involved screenings of individuals who had contact with positive cases, 51 were other screenings at health facilities, 39 involved screenings of persons in existing active clusters, 20 were symptomatic persons screened at health facilities, and one was an individual who had returned from Kuala Lumpur (Import B).
Regarding the state’s Covid-19 vaccination programme, SDMC said as of 8am today, a total of 615,208 individuals had registered statewide through Division Resident’s Offices whereas 418,435 had registered through the MySejahtera application.
As of today, there were 28 active clusters in the state.
