KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 570 new positive Covid-19 cases today, bringing the state’s tally to 27,319.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 128 of these cases were reported in Bintulu district; Kapit (109); Kuching (76); Sibu (54); Song (45); Subis (29); Serian (26); Bukit Mabong (16); Tatau (14); Miri (11); Kanowit (10); Belaga (10); nine each in Lundu, Mukah and Samarahan; Sarikei (five), Bau (three), Tebedu (two and one each in Beluru, Saratok, Meradong, Betong and Selangau.
“Of the 570 new cases reported, 43 showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during screening,” the committee said in a statement.
It added that 507 individuals detected were those who had been given quarantine orders.
On the breakdown of the 570 cases, SDMC said 360 cases were individuals who had contacts with positive Covid-19 cases, 137 were individuals linked to existing active clusters, 39 were other screenings at health facilities, 24 involved screenings by symptomatic individuals at health facilities, and 10 were individuals who had returned from other states in Malaysia (categorised as Import B cases).
“Today, 637 new cases have recovered and have been discharged,” said the committee.
It said of these, 172 cases were from Sibu Hospital and the Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under it, Bintulu Hospital (168), Sarikei Hospital and the PKRC under it (75), PKRC Mukah (71), Miri Hospital and PKRC under it (57), Sarawak General Hospital and PKRC under it (36), Kapit Hospital and the PKRC under it (32), PKRC Serian (12), PKRC Betong (10), Sri Aman Hospital (two) plus one each in Limbang Hospital and Sri Aman prison PKRC.
“This brings the number of Covid-19 cases who have recovered and been discharged to 21,412 or 78.38 percent of the total number of cases in Sarawak,” it said.
SDMC said 5,118 active cases were still being isolated and treated at PKRCs and hospital wards.
“A total of 570 new persons under investigation (PUIs) have been reported and no PUIs are awaiting laboratory test results,” it added.
Meanwhile, it stated that Sarawak currently has 56 active clusters where 13 recorded 146 additional cases while 43 other clusters recorded zero additional cases.
As of today, 21 districts remained as red zones, six districts as orange zones, 10 districts as yellow zones, and three districts remained as green zones.
