KUCHING: Sarawak recorded a significant increase of 578 new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative cases to 77,306.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Sunday (August 1) said Kuching recorded the highest number of cases at 317.
“In other districts, Serian recorded 65 new cases followed by Sibu (29), Samarahan (23), Bau (20), Miri (16), Lundu (16), Bintulu (15), Mukah (15), Simunjan (13) and Kabong (11).
“Meanwhile, seven new cases were recorded in Dalat while Sri Aman and Selangau each recorded six new cases, and Meradong recorded four cases.
“The districts of Betong and Saratok each recorded three cases; Kanowit, Tatau and Tebedu each recorded two cases, whereas Sarikei, Pusa and Beluru each recorded only one case,” it said.
Out of the total, 440 have had close contacts with positive Covid-19 cases, 64 are from active clusters and 40 are symptomatic individuals from screenings at health facilities.
SDMC added 28 people were from other screenings from health facilities and six are Import B cases coming in from Kuala Lumpur (four) and Perak (two).
Apart from that, there are a total of 149 cases discharged from hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centres (PKRCs).
Of these, 61 cases were discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH and PKRC under it, Sarikei Hospital (26), Serian PKRC (20), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) PKRC (13), Miri Hospital and PKRC under it (10), Sibu Hospital and PKRC under it (nine), Betong PKRC (six), Kapit Hospital and PKRC under it (three) and Lawas PKRC (one).
“This brings the cumulative number of recovered and discharged cases in Sarawak to 70,721 (91.48 percent),” it said.
The committee said there are still 5,947 active cases in the state.
