KUCHING: Sarawak recorded its highest number of daily Covid-19 deaths with eight fatalities on Friday (May 21) after the seven deaths reported on May 19.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said this brought the death toll due to Covid-19 in the state to 247.
Five of the fatalities were reported in Kapit, two in Sarikei and one in Saratok.
SDMC said the 240th death involved a 73-year-old local woman who had sought treatment at the Kapit Hospital for vomiting, diarrhoea and loss of appetite.
A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test for Covid-19 was taken on May 5 and it was found to be positive. The case’s health condition deteriorated and she died on May 12.
The 241st death, involved a 75-year-old local man who had been referred to Kapit Hospital from a health clinic after having shortness of breath, fever and loss of appetite.
A rT-PCR test for Covid-19 was taken on May 14 came back positive. The case’s health condition deteriorated and he died on May 18.
The 242nd death, involved a 72-year-old local woman who had been treated at the Kapit Hospital after experiencing fatigue and loss of appetite. She died on May 19.
The case was linked to the Jalan Selirik Cluster.
SDMC said the 243rd death, involved a 73-year-old local woman who had received treatment at Kapit Hospital following the swab taken for close contact screening of Covid-19 positive cases on May 11.
Her health condition deteriorated and was confirmed dead on May 19.
The 244th death involved a 62-year-old woman who was treated at Saratok Hospital for chest pain and cough.
A rT-PCR test found she was positive for Covid-19 on May 17. The case was then referred to Sarikei Hospital for further treatment. However, her health deteriorated and she died on May 19.
The 245th death involved a 85-year-old local man who had received treatment at Sarikei Hospital after an rT-PCR test conducted on high-risk areas on May 7.
His health condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on May 19.
Meanwhile, the 246th death involved a 80-year-old local man who had been referred to Kapit Hospital for having fever while undergoing dialysis treatment.
The case was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on May 17. He died on May 20.
The 247th death involved a 73-year-old local man who had received treatment at Sarikei Hospital following a symptomatic screening whereby the rT-PCR and rapid antigent test was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on April 26.
The case had experienced cough, chest pain and breathing difficulty. He was pronounced dead on May 20.
SDMC extends condolences to the deceased’s family members.
