KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive Covid-19 case here today, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,066.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Case 1,066 was an Indonesian man who underwent screening before entering the state to work for a different employer .
The man is a general worker at an oil palm plantation in the Serian district.
“The case underwent Covid-19 rT-PCR test at a private hospital in Kuching City on Dec 2 and was found positive with the virus on the same day.
“The case does not show any signs and symptoms. He has been admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment,” the committee said in a statement last Thursday (Dec 3).
Based on the initial investigation, the case has a history of travelling to Kalimantan, Indonesia before returning to the state in early October.
He has no previous history of Covid-19 screening and has no close contact with any positive cases.
“The case is still under investigation and contact tracing is in full swing. Until the investigation is complete, the case is categorised as a local infection,” added SDMC.
As for recovery and discharged cases, one was reported at SGH, bringing the total number to 1,032 or 96.81 percent.
As of today, 15 Covid-19 cases were still receiving treatment at hospitals, namely nine at SGH, four at Miri Hospital and two at Sibu Hospital.
Meanwhile, 49 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported, with none awaiting lab test result.
Sarawak still has six active clusters, namely Jalan Abell, Baki, Greenhill, Wisma Saberkas, Seladah, and Besi.
Kuching is an orange zone at present while Miri and Lawas remain yellow.
