KUCHING: Three new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Sarawak today.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the total cases statewide is now 721.

The two imported cases, he disclosed, were recorded in Miri and Kuching.

“Case 719, an import case involving a local man who arrived at Kuching International Airport after returning from a visit to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

“He underwent a Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) Covid-19 test on Oct 2 and the sample was found positive on Oct 5,” Uggah said during the Covid-19 daily update press conference here.

He also said case 719, who is a frequent flyer from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu to visit family and for business, is an Import B case.

“The case underwent random rT-PCR Covid-19 test on Aug 29 upon his arrival at Kuching International Airport after returning from Sabah and the sample was found negative.

“He also travelled from Sabah to Kuching on Aug 12 and did not undergo random swab test.

“The case did not show any signs and symptoms, and is now admitted at Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.”

Case 720 is also an Import B case, Uggah said, involving a local woman returning from Selangor via Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) to Miri last Saturday.

“Case 720 is also a regular flyer, frequently returning from Kuala Lumpur to Sarawak via Bintulu and Miri Airport.

“She resides and works at a private clinic in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.”

Uggah explained that the case tested positive last Sunday after undergoing the rT-PCR Covid-19 test upon her arrival at Miri Airport on Oct 3.

“Upon investigation, it was also found that the case had symptoms since Oct 1. The case was admitted at Miri Hospital for further treatment on the same day after tested positive.”

Case 721, Uggah said, was a local transmission involving a local woman who had close contact with case 714.

“The case tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 5 after undergoing the rT-PCR Covid-19 test on Oct 3 and was instructed to undergo quarantine at her house.

On new persons under investigation (PUI), Sarawak recorded five new cases, with none awaiting laboratory test results.

“There are no new recoveries and discharged cases, and the total recovery cases remains at 683 or 94.73 percent.”

Nine are being treated at Sarawak General Hospital, six at Miri Hospital, three at Sibu Hospital and one at Bintulu Hospital.
