KUCHING: The Sarawak Regatta 2024, scheduled to be held at the Kuching Waterfront from Oct 25 to Nov 3, continues to garner support from corporate sponsors.

A ceremony to hand over sponsorships took place earlier at a notable hotel in the city, attended by Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; and Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew.

The sponsors included Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) contributing RM550,000, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) RM300,000, Petra Energy Berhad (RM300,000), Bintulu Port Holding Berhad (RM300,000), JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia) Limited (RM50,000), Ta Ann Holding Berhad (RM20,000), Hock Peng Reality Sdn Bhd (RM20,000), Sarawok Sdn Bhd (RM20,000), Sarawak Plantation Berhad (RM10,000), Borneo Housing Mortgage Financing Berhad (RM5,000), and Moma Water Sdn Bhd providing drinking water sponsorship.

“We would like to express our gratitude to all sponsors,” Abdul Karim stated during a press conference today (Oct 16).

The regatta will feature international dragon boat races from Oct 25 to 27, with participation from 60 teams representing 21 countries, including England, Ireland, and the United States.

The races for the bidar boats will be held from Nov 1 to 3.

According to Abdul Karim, in the second week, in November, the highlight will be the Sarawak Regatta, held on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of November.

The final will take place on Nov 3, featuring the “Raja Sungai” event.

“In addition to ‘Raja Sungai’, there are many other events, including a new event which is a marathon. This marathon will be three kilometres long, with a prize money of RM20,000.

“This year’s boat race will be lively, with notable guests expected, including the Sultan of Brunei, who will participate in the VIP race alongside Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and other guests,” he added.
