KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that Sarawak has registered 6,555 technologists and technicians with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) as of June this year.

The Premier urged those who have yet to register to do so, stressing the importance of a robust technological workforce in building a stronger nation.

He also stressed the need for greater awareness about MBOT among Sarawakians.

“I think many people in Sarawak do not know what MBOT is all about. They might just think it’s a boat. We need to create awareness among those who are qualified to register as members of MBOT,” he said.

He was delivering a keynote speech at the MBOT Experts Network in Technology, Innovation and Cooperative Event (ENTICE) at Le Meridien here today.

Abang Johari said Sarawak remains committed to empowering technologists and technicians.

He noted that last year, during the MBOT Borneo Symposium, he set an ambitious goal for the state to register 10,000 technologists and technicians by 2025.

He stressed that Sarawak’s partnership with MBOT enhances workforce capabilities, ensuring the state’s global competitiveness.

“Our partnership with MBOT enhances workforce capabilities, ensuring Sarawak’s global competitiveness. Events like ENTICE drive innovation and growth. Thank you, MBOT, for organising this event and advancing technology in Malaysia,” he added.

On the same note, Abang Johari lauded the event’s theme this year, ‘Celebrating Diversity and Inclusivity Through Technology’, saying it aligns with Sarawak’s vision for a progressive, united, and innovative Malaysia.

He said it places emphasis on the role of technology in bridging gaps and creating equal opportunities.

“Sarawak’s strategic vision focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technologies to boost our economy, drive sustainable development, and improve the quality of life for all Sarawakians.

“Our focus on digital infrastructure, green technology, and innovative solutions positions Sarawak as a leader in the digital economy and green energy sectors,” he said.

During the event, Abang Johari outlined several key initiatives, including the Digital Economy Blueprint 2030, which aims to transform Sarawak into a digitally driven economy by 2030.

“Imagine a young entrepreneur from a remote village launching a tech startup, and students in isolated areas having the same internet access to educational resources as those in our cities. This is the inclusive future Sarawak is building,” he said.

The Premier also stressed the importance of developing a skilled and inclusive workforce while adopting frontier technologies to stay competitive.

He noted that Sarawak is also committed to transitioning towards green energy, focusing on sustainable practices to drive economic growth and environmental conservation.
