KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster, the Citrawarna Cluster, was reported in the state on Wednesday (March 9).
In its daily update the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), said the cluster involved people who directly participated in the Citrawarna Keluarga Malaysia 2022 programme Feb 24 at Kuching Waterfront.
The committee said the index case was detected in a local 45-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 27 at a private medical hospital here.
“A total of 58 close contacts were identified and after screening, 21 (including index cases) were found positive, while 32 individuals were found negative and another six individuals are still awaiting results.
“The spread of the infection is believed caused by mingling and close contact among them while attending the programme,” the committee said.
SDMC also informed that there were 24 other positive cases reported (not from this cluster) who also attended the Citrawarna programme.
“In this regard, individuals with a history of attending the Citrawarna Keluarga Malaysia 2022 are advised to self-monitor and self-screen if they experience any signs and symptoms.
“The public is also advised not to attend group activities involving many participants or attendees where the SOP is difficult to adhere to, especially if they have symptoms or have been detected positive.
“All individuals should play their respective roles and undergo self-test if they have symptoms, or before participating in activities that involve many people or high-risk groups,” the committee stressed.
The committee added that the cases were being isolated and treated at Sarawak General Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre here.
