KUCHING: Recent disparaging articles about Sarawak leaders by a Malaya-based writer “will not shake” the state, said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching branch chairperson Datuk Lily Yong.
“I feel that as a Chinese, as a Sarawakian, and a member of SUPP in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), I think this is unnecessary.
“I don’t think while we are forging ahead, our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg need to entertain this type of statement, to me it’s totally unnecessary (to what was written),” she said.
Yong questioned the motive behind the write-up and thinks that Sarawakians should continue to defend the state
“What Abang Johari is doing now, he’s on the right track and we are moving forward and we want to see a better Sarawak together.
“Anything of this type of statement, I think, would not shake us. Sarawak knows what is our future, where we are moving towards. I think this is very important,” she told reporters after the unveiling of the party branch’s signage at SUPP Kuching branch compound today.
Yong said despite the economic challenges, support must be given to Abang Johari to move the state and country forward to build the nation.
“We must all give him the support. He is trying very hard. Why don’t we give him the support instead of launching personal attacks. We should give him all the support to see what he is doing, at the end of the day, it’s Sarawak,” she said.
Yong pointed out that the people of Sarawak will benefit from the efforts achieved by Abang Johari and reiterated that Malayans should be more friendly, work together and give Sarawak support.
“When Sarawak is good, I think West Malaysia will be good too. Why do they want to attack Sarawak? We can contribute together towards a better Malaysia,” she said.
Recently, a content creator of a Newswav platform claimed that he has been targeted by Abang Johari and had accused the latter of picking a fight.
The articles in question are titled ‘Opinion: A challenge to you, Abang Jo, if you are as great as you think you are’ (published on June 10, 2024) and ‘When will Abang Jo’s luck run out?’ (May 24, 2024).
Another article was published in Focus Malaysia titled ‘RM2k legal fee is all I can afford if Abang Jo wants to nail me; beyond that, he can just throw me in jail’ (June 12, 2024).
As of yesterday, police have received five reports lodged by Sarawakians against the Malaya-based writer.
