KUCHING: The Borneo states have always been close with one another no matter the capacity and activities done together, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah.
According to the Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister, despite the rivalry shown in sports events participated by them, in spirit, Sabah and Sarawak has always enjoyed close relationship.
He disclosed that during the amendment of the State Constitution in changing the title of Chief Minister to Premier, there was an unofficial meeting held between the Premier and Sabah’s Chief Minister in explaining the change.
“The meeting was more about getting his views and telling him what we can do (after the amendment).
“With the certain limitations faced on the other side (Sabah), I believe that they are quite envious of us.
“In Sarawak, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has full control in making decisions for the state while the administration in Sabah are held by UMNO and Bersatu – which are not local based parties,” he said in his official TikTok account posted on Saturday (May 21).
Due to this, he explained that any important decision made or policy-related matter in Sabah would need to be referred to their ‘big boss’ who is not Sabahan.
“That is why deep inside them, they would love to be like Sarawak… we will never know after the next general election, things might change down there,” he said.
