MIRI: The Sarawak Sailing Team concluded the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 with a historic achievement, securing two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals — a total of six medals.
The gold medals were won by the International 420 men’s team, consisting of Syahzharoul Aiman Rozaiman and Muhammad Amirul Aqmal Aslan, while the International 420 women’s were won by Nurul Shazwanie Mohd Saad and Nur Asma Syahrizan.
In addition to the gold medals, the Sarawak team earned two silver medals: Nur Alya Husna Mohd Tariki in the Women’s RS One category and Eric Owen Tan Chang Fook in the ILCA 7 men’s category.
Bronze medals were awarded to Muhammad Yusuf Abdullah in the Men’s RS One category and also to Mohd Hazmi Suwandy, Muhd Abrisam Athmar, Muhd Afham Amsyar, Muhd Yaasin Syahrizan and Nur’ain Syahrizan for the Optimist team event.
The sailing tournament was held over six days from August 19 to August 24 at Marina Bay and saw Sarawakians from all corners come together to show their unwavering support for the Sarawak Sailing Team.
Despite the scorching sun and unpredictable weather, the crowd remained resolute and enthusiastic, continuously cheering for their local champions.
Constantly supporting the Sarawak Sailing Team was Datuk Rosey Yunus, the assistant chef de mission (ACDM) for sailing who was also present at the medal presentatioN to all the winners at Marina Bay today (Aug 24).
The sailing competition at 21st SUKMA featured 14 categories, including Optimist Team Mixed, Optimist Individual (men and women), ILCA 4 (men and women), ILCA 6 (men and women), ILCA 7 (men), International 420 (men and women), Techno 293 (men and women), and RS One (men and women).
