KUCHING: Sarawak aims to achieve a State Average Grade (GPN) of 4.72 in the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, with 95 per cent of candidates qualifying to receive their certificates.
State Education Department (JPNS) director, Datuk Dr. Azhar Ahmad, said this goal also seeks to replicate the excellent results recorded in the 2023 SPM results.
“All the students here are fortunate; you are part of the approximately 34,000 SPM candidates in Sarawak this year.
“Therefore, for this year, our target GPN is 4.72 at the state level, with 95 per cent of candidates qualifying for certificates.
“This is also to almost repeat the success Sarawak achieved in SPM 2023, where we recorded a GPN of 4.92 and a pass rate of 93.18 per cent,” he said at the launch of the SIDMA College Sarawak pilot project, here, today.
He stated that such success can be achieved if the candidates work hard and strive to do their best.
“The success you dream of depends on your efforts. You alone can change your fate and transform your life for the better.
“I have witnessed many changes in people’s lives. Even the teachers and leaders you see today didn’t start out great, but they succeeded through hard work.
“Therefore, all of you must strive to change, including changing the way you think and learn. Build confidence and self-discipline, read diligently, and much more,” he stressed.
On the project, he said it is a collaboration between SIDMA College Sarawak and JPNS to enhance education through workshops conducted by selected Excellent Teachers.
“The launch of this joint project will be the beginning of success and excellence, with a focus on core subjects such as History, Malay Language, and Islamic Religious Education.
“The main objective is to focus on achieving the target of 100 per cent male bumiputera students who are categorised as ‘Harapan Lulus’ (Hope to Pass),” he said.
The project involves approximately 300 students from five schools around Kuching, namely, SMK Demak Baru, SMK Bandar Samariang, SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman (STAR), SMK Petra Jaya, and SMK Santubong.
Of this total, 150 are 2024 SPM candidates, while the rest are Form 4 students.
Also present were SIDMA College Sarawak Consultant, Dr. Fatimah Bujang, and SIDMA College Sarawak Chairman, Marzuki Umi.
