KUCHING: The Sarawak State Secretariat Contingent are preparing for a strong comeback at the National State Secretariat Sports Carnival (SUKSEM) in Perak in 2026, with the aim of clinching the championship title.
Following this, chef de mission Datuk Buckland Bangik praised the team for their impressive performance at SUKSEM 2024, despite finishing fourth overall.
He also mentioned that a comprehensive evaluation would be conducted to analyse the performance of the Sarawak contingent in SUKSEM 2024.
“We were champions in the Selangor edition, but finished fourth in Terengganu. Therefore, for the evaluation, we will conduct both internal and external analyses.
“For the next edition, we must prepare well, work hard, and give our best. Whatever we do, there is always something to learn.”
Buckland, who is also Deputy State Secretary (Administration), made these comments during the appreciation ceremony for the Sarawak contingent, Thursday (Nov 21).
He also expressed his appreciation for the dedication and discipline shown by all athletes throughout the competition.
Host team Terengganu was crowned overall champion of SUKSEM 2024, while Sabah and Perak took second and third places, respectively.
The competition, which took place from Oct 15 to 19, saw Sarawak competing in 10 sports: football, badminton, netball, table tennis, sepak takraw, golf, carrom, lawn bowls, tenpin bowling and e-sports.
Among those present were the director of the Administration Unit and deputy chef de mission, Datuk Mohamad Junaidi Mohidin; the director of the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung; the director of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Samuel Simon; the director of the Immigration and Labour Management Unit, Richard Lon; and other distinguished guests.
