KUCHING: The Sarawak government is setting aside RM200 million in financial allocation to expedite the development of dilapidated schools and clinics in rural areas.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government will advance the allocation which will be reimbursed by the federal government later.

“Our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to a collaboration between the Sarawak government and the federal government, where both can expedite the implementation of these projects with Sarawak advancing the financial allocation, which will later be reimbursed by the federal government.

“This cooperation will help us to speed up our projects in rural areas, especially dilapidated schools and clinics. Thank you, sir, for your agreement on this arrangement,” Abang Johari said.

He said this during the state-level Gawai Dayak 2024 Gala Dinner at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

He also said that the agreement would undoubtedly have a positive impact on developing rural areas.

“The Sarawak government is ready to allocate RM100 million for dilapidated schools and another RM100 million for dilapidated clinics.

“This is to be implemented within 18 months. And this will certainly accelerate the development of dilapidated schools and clinics in our rural areas,” he pointed out.

He said this reflected the good collaboration between the federal government and the state government.

“And hopefully, it will bring many positive impacts, especially in our efforts to develop rural areas.

“I am just announcing this early but the payment can be made later,” he said.
