SIBU: The creation of a motorcycle brand that belongs to Sarawak, combining local characteristics with international standards to create globally competitive products can be explored.
Stating this, federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said such innovations not only improve the overall level of the motorcycle industry but also contribute to the development of the local economy.
“The rapid development of science technology and the constant changes in market demand require us to continue to innovate and be brave to explore.
“In this regard, l encourage those industry players to think and endeavour to promote the application of cutting-edge technologies in the industry,” he said at the Sarawak Central Bicycle & Motorcycle Dealers Association’s (SCBMDA) 68th anniversary celebration dinner here last night (Sept 29).
Tiong was represented by Joshua Ting Fu Ying, a political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, who delivered his text of speech.
Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, noted that over the past 68 years, the association has grown steadily, through countless challenges and tests.
Observing on the historic changes in the industry, from traditional bicycles to modern motorcycles,and extensive coverage of repair and parts sales, he said every step of progress has condensed hard work and selfless dedication, reflecting the continuous innovation and progress of the industry players.
He firmly believed the association can continue to promote the sustainable development of the industry under the guidance of the concept and purpose of “safety, standardisation and innovation”, and will also inject more vitality and hope into the future of the industry.
While celebrating the association’s brilliant achievements over the years, he enlightenned that they must also recognise the important social responsibilities they shoulder. Especially on the issue of motorcycle modification, random modification not only endangers driving safety, but may also cause negative social news.
“Therefore, I call on merchants not to arbitrarily carry out non-standard modifications for the sake of immediate interests. We must prevent accidents or negative news caused by modified motorcycles from the source.
“As a leader in the industry, I am pleased to see that the association has been actively advocating safe driving and standardized modification, striving to ensure the safety of every driver and promote social harmony.
“This deep understanding and sense of responsibility for social responsibility is worthy of learning and respect from each of us,” Tiong, who is also the Dudong assembyman, enthused.
Also present were Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew, Malaysian Motorcycle Dealers Association president Datuk Wee Hong, SCBMDA chairman Tan Yii Chang and the event’s organising chairperson Chiew Nyuk Ing.
