KUCHING: The Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) is organising a two-day Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) 101 Workshop on May 11 and 12 at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching.

The workshop aims to provide participants with a strong foundation in sustainability, climate change, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESG reporting, and strategies to create and maintain value using ESG investment strategies.

Hallman Sabri, executive director of Sarawak Skills and chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), highlighted in a press release today (April 15) the importance of the workshop in helping organisations tap into export markets.

“The workshop is open to both public and private sector organisations, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and is HRD Corp claimable for registered employers.

“ESG criteria are increasingly used by investors and stakeholders to assess the sustainability and long-term viability of organisations, and organisations that score well on ESG criteria are often perceived as more responsible and better managed, which can translate into better financial performance over the long term.

“During the workshop, participants will also learn from real-life case studies on how organisations can assess risks, create better risk management plans and policies, and embrace behaviours and cultures to facilitate the identification of opportunities,” he said.

Hallman emphasised that the workshop would be relevant to organisations in both the public and private sectors, including SMEs, as Sarawak aims to transform its economy in line with its Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) through the development and launch of green and blue economy initiatives.

“This workshop is seen as an important step forward for organisations looking to tap into export markets by leveraging sustainability and ESG practises to enhance their competitiveness and long-term viability,” he added in the statement.
