KUCHING: A local engineering company “Satok Bridge Area Consulting Engineers Sdn Bhd” has been recognised as one of the top five winners in the Shell LiveWIRE Malaysia 2022 national finals.
The company, founded by Lavindar Singh and Rinal Roney, was awarded a start-up fund of RM30,000 from Shell Malaysia and an additional cash prize of RM20,000 from Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS).
During the award ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof encouraged successful entrepreneurs to give back to the community by providing mentorship and motivation to aspiring young entrepreneurs.
“Successful founders often become mentors, coaches, and even investors for aspiring young entrepreneurs. By highlighting these achievements, we create a positive cycle of inspiration, attracting investments, nurturing talents, and encouraging knowledge sharing. This, in turn, creates networking opportunities, fosters collaboration, and inspires growth in the startup ecosystem,” Fadillah said.
He said this at the Shell LiveWIRE Sarawak 2023 National Awards Ceremony, held at TEGAS Digital Village today (July 15).
Shell Malaysia National chairman Siti Hurairah Sulaiman shared that the Shell LiveWIRE entrepreneurship development programme has invested over RM3 million in training more than 600 new entrepreneurs in Sarawak and Sabah.
In Sarawak, the partnership with TEGAS has played a crucial role in catalysing the growth of entrepreneurship.
Since the programme’s introduction in Malaysia in 2015, nearly half a million ringgit in start-up grants has been awarded to support entrepreneurs in Sarawak and Sabah, Siti added.
Siti, who is also the Senior Vice President of Upstream Malaysia, proudly announced that LiveWIRE entrepreneurs from Sarawak and Sabah secured 99 business contracts with Shell retailers last year, including Ahmad Tamar from Kuching.
This edition of Shell LiveWIRE marked the first time the entrepreneurship development programme was conducted at a national level.
These five winners were selected from a total of 15 winners from Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia last year.
Additionally, four other companies from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia were recognised during the award ceremony. The recipients of the award were Beebag, founded by Joshua Lim and Joel Lim; manekNya, founded by Swee Lin Lee and Swee May Lee; Qarbotech, founded by Mohamad Syazwan Abdul Rahman and Chee Hoe Chor; and Hong Xin Food Sdn Bhd, founded by Cherry Chew Li Ding and Ariel Maxine Kim Hoong Chia.
