KUCHING: The Sarawak taekwondo team fell short of advancing to the quarterfinals in the lightweight categories (men under 74 kg, women under 62 kg) in the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

In the men’s lightweight category (under 74kg), Eric Lu Zeng Ming lost 1-2 to Negeri Sembilan’s Jeevitan Thuraivel.

And in the women’s lightweight category, Valencia Bulan Musli lost 0-2 to Wannur Syifa Mohd Riduan of Perak.

Talking to reporters after their respective match at Stadium Perpaduan in Petrajaya here on Tuesday (Aug 20), they said they were grateful for the experience, considering it was their first experience participating in big events.

“I managed to gain a lot of experience during this competition, and it is also a great place to brush up my skills,” said Valencia.

Li in the meantime, vowed to continue to do better in the future events.

“At the same time, I am also plan to further my studies and after that I will be participating in much bigger events,” he said.

Valencia on the other hands wants to continue her studies in sports science.

“Hopefully in the future, I can become a sports educator,” she said.
