BINTULU: Sarawakian talents abroad are urged to return and actively participate in Sarawak’s nation-building efforts.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said there is a need to address the shortage of skilled workers to meet the high-skilled employment demands expected over the next five to ten years.
He added this is due to the state’s green energy initiatives, such as the Sarawak Methanol Plant and its rapid economic development.
“Given the current pace of progress in Sarawak, there is a pressing need to fill the gap of skilled workforces in meeting the demands of high-skilled employment over the next five to ten years.
“I would also like to emphasise the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to support and propel the growth of our expanding economy.
“Education and human capital development are critical components in increasing workers efficiency and help our economy to move up the value chain,” he said.
He said this during the launching ceremony of the Sarawak Methanol Complex at Tanjung Kidurong here today (July 22).
Abang Johari also noted that Sarawakian talents from overseas and West Malaysia have already returned and are currently working with Sarawak Petchem.
“Looking at the level of our economic development, we will be abreast with economic development worldwide.
“We are a small nation, but our dreams are big because of our rich resources. I am sure that with sheer determination and self-confidence, Sarawak can achieve great things,” he added.
As Sarawak moves forward, Abang Johari said the Sarawak Methanol Complex serves as an inspiration to pursue excellence, embrace innovative technologies, and champion sustainable practices.
“Together, we are building a future that is not only prosperous but also responsible and sustainable,” he said.
