Sarawak tennis loses in mixed team event

KUCHING: The Sarawak tennis team was narrowly defeated by Selangor 2-3 in the mixed team event on the second day of the 21st Malaysia Game (SUKMA) Tennis match at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) court yesterday (Aug 17).

Competing in Group C, the home team saw its men’s single event player, Chong Zhi Hao lose to Selangor’s Christian Sheng in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

In the women’s single, Sarawak representative, Eliora Hii was unable to secure any points, losing 0-6, 0-6 to Sharifah Elsa Wan Abdul Rahman.

However, Sarawak bounced back in the women’s double, with Soo Hui Yii and Lydia Liong defeating Chloe Chong and Mak Zooey in two sets, 6-1, 7-5.

Similarly, the men’s double pair, Hii Shieng Wee and Matthew Goh claimed victory over Devesh Sarawanan and Syed Uzair Sufi Syed Ibrahim, winning 6-3, 6-3.

Unfortunately, Sarawak’s mixed doubles team, Raidon Tan and Nathanielle Lee, lost their match to Selangor’s Hayden Menon Khoo and Saw Jo-Leen, with a scoreline of 3-6, 0-6.

On the first day of the tennis match, the Sarawak team made a strong start, securing a 4-1 against Sabah.
The home team managed to make it into the quarter final after being able to stay in the top two of the Group. It competed yesterday afternoon (Aug 17) for the semi final round.
