Sarawak tightens SOP for one week as cases spike sharply

KUCHING: In view of the alarming rise in Covid-19 cases, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has decided to tighten the existing standard operating procedure (SOP) for the state’s Southern Zone for one week, effective from 12.01am on Aug 22 to 11.59pm on Aug 29.

The committee on Friday (Aug 20) said this decision involved the districts of Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Serian, and Tebedu.

“Among the SOPs which will be implemented are that dine-ins will not be permitted and business operation hours will be shortened to last from 5am to 8pm.

“Individuals or groups of individuals are not allowed to be in public areas after 10pm without a sensible reason.”

With regard to the implementation of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO), SDMC declared that this would be enforced at six new localities in the state.

“The rental units above the Protective Insurance Service shop in Bintulu District will be under  EMCO from Aug 19 to Sept 1 while Rh Biju, Entayau, Engkelili in Lubok Antu District will undergo  EMCO from Aug 20 to Sept 2.”

SDMC said two localities in Samarahan District would also be placed under EMCO, namely Lorong 28 to 32, Taman Samarindah and Taman Samarindah Baru from Aug 20 to 30 and Kampung Sebayor, Kota Samarahan from Aug 21 to Sept 3.

“EMCO will also be imposed at Semalatong area (Simpang Semalatong and Semalatong Indah), Kg Semalatong Lama, Kg Semalatong Baru, Kg Sg Semabang, and Kg Sibau Rumbau in Simunjan District from Aug 21 to Sept 3 as well as at Rh Tang, Telok Batu, Bintangor in Meradong District from Aug 21 to Sept 6.”

EMCO enforced at Kampung Tanah Hitam 1 and Kampung Tanah Hitam 2, Sematan in Lundu District will be extended to last from Aug 21 to Sept 3.

At the same time, EMCO imposed at six localities had come to an end.

“EMCO at Rumah Angut Anding, Ulu Keriok, Niah in Subis District ended on Aug 19.”

EMCO imposed at Rh Nyambar, Dabai Baroh, Roban in Betong District; Kampung Sebat Melayu, Kampung Sebat Baru, and Kampung Temaga Melayu, Sematan in Lundu District; Nam Joon Trading Workers Quarters in Bintulu District; Workers Dormitories Complex 2, Ladang Sungai Mangga, Tersak and Tanjung Melano in Simunjan District; and Rh Alia, Kampung Kandis, Pantu in Sri Aman District had come to an end as of Aug 20.
