MIRI: The Sarawak government is steadfast in its efforts to enhance infrastructure, particularly in Miri and Baram, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Abang Johari pointed out the ongoing construction of a bridge that will connect Miri and Marudi, a vital link that will eliminate the need for ferry services.
The project, fully funded by the state government, is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“Now we are building a bridge that connects Miri with Marudi. Once completed, we don’t have to use a ferry anymore, this bridge will be ready at the end of this year. No tolls. This project is funded by the state government,” he said during the state banquet held at a hotel here last night (Sept 28)
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was also in attendance at the event.
Abang Johari further revealed that once the Miri-Marudi bridge is completed, further infrastructure projects will connect Marudi to several rural areas, including Long Terawan and Long Jigitan.
The construction of these roads, which will span from Long Terawan to Mulu, is estimated to cost over RM2 billion and is also being financed by the state government.
“This major project will be completed within the next four years. The new road will connect Marudi with Limbang, and from there, it will link to Miri via a route that passes through Brunei Darussalam,” he added.
The Premier reiterated that these initiatives are part of the Sarawak government’s commitment to improving accessibility in rural areas and fostering economic growth throughout the state.
