LUNDU: The Sarawak government wants to transform the administrative centres in the state to be equipped with modern facilities and digital technology.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said that this was in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to develop Sarawak into a high-income and developed state.
“We must have a very efficient civil service to help the government to implement the policies.
“That is why, the infrastructure (administrative centre) must be relevant with the new economy.
“So, if the office is equipped with basic digital facilities, our officers know about the Internet of Things (IoT),” he said when officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony of the Lundu District Administrative Centre here yesterday (June 11).
He added that Lundu is developing, and hence it is also important for the Lundu Administrative Centre to be built beautifully, including adding gardens, so that it could provide a conducive working environment for the staff.
“In the civil service, we have to keep abreast with the latest technology. Therefore, it is important for civil servants to improve the quality of services and equip themselves with knowledge on technology,” he said.
On another note, he said the development projects carried out by the state are an effort to further increase the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
“In order to achieve these targets, the government must continue to be far-sighted and have a visionary objective in transforming the state,” he said.
Later in a press conference, he said that the architectural design of the new Lundu Administrative Centre has to change in tandem with technological advances.
“Last time during the British colonial era, the district offices had rest houses, but that is a bygone era.
“People no longer use rest houses. So the rest house here in Lundu will be demolished and we will develop a new landscape for the Lundu Administrative Centre,” said Abang Johari, adding that works would take 18 months to complete.
