KUCHING: The Malaysia Tourism Council (MTC) in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, will organise the annual MTC Gold Award ceremony this year.

The ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 22 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah explained that this is the first time that MTC collaborates with the state government in organising the award.

“We are seriously promoting Sarawak as a leading tourism destination and therefore it is very timely for this event to be held in Sarawak.

“As you know, tourism industry has been badly affected by the pandemic but nevertheless many tourism players have survived through their resilience and commitment,” he said.

He added that through MTC Gold Awards 2022, they are recognising the tourism heroes.

“Over 80 awards in various categories will be presented to the industry players for their excellence and support in the development of the tourism industry in Malaysia.

“The award is to recognise all industry players and stakeholders such as the national and state tourism, local authorities, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, theme parks, homestays, NGO’s and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that contribute to the recovery of the tourism industry,” he explained.

He said more than 1,500 players from all over the country will be attending the event.

Abdul Karim explained that he was glad to inform that Sarawak’s tourism industry has shown very positive signs of recovery from the pandemic.

“Even though Covid-19 pandemic has halted many iconic events and festivals, the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak has been working very hard to initiate, encourage and support events and festivals,” he said.

He looked forward to the MTC Gold Award in October while wishing the organiser a fruitful event which would bring much awaited excitement to the tourism industry.
