KUCHING: Sarawak will be hosting its very own Urban Forum, which will be held for four days this coming September.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommuncation Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this marks Sarawak as the first state in Malaysia to hold its own forum, titled Sarawak Urban Forum (SUF).

“The idea came after the state became the host for last year’s Malaysia Urban Forum (MUF) which was held in October.

“We have received the approval from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to hold the forum here.

“It will be held for four days (Thursday to Sunday) but the specific date is still in discussion,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after attending the Pantai Damai Service Centre Hari Raya Open House here on Friday (May 3).

“Several experts in city management from Japan will be invited for the forum to talk about their knowledge and expertise,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman added that SUF will be full of outdoor interesting activities, thus encouraging entry from members of the public.

“The activities do not only involve the officials from Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), but also from the community such as the youth, children, students, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“For the forum, the main participants will be from members of the DBKU, alongside members of district council from all over Sarawak and Abang Johari is expected to officiate at the forum as well,” he said.

For the record, last year’s MUF 2023 was held here from Nov 4 to 8 with the theme “Catalysing Transformative Actions for Sustainable and Resilient Urbanisation”.
