KUCHING: The Sarawak government is set to pursue the RM100 million funding promised by the federal government for repairing and upgrading dilapidated schools and clinics in the state.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said thus far, the state government has not received the allocated funding from the federal government.
“Not yet. We (Sarawak) haven’t received anything. But having said that, we are not going to wait.
“We are going to plan with what the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated.
“We know that what the Premier has allocated will materialise,” he told reporters when met after the Kuching Autistic Association’s (KAA) 2024 Charity Sales and Food Fair at the Association of Churches Sarawak Hall today (July 14).
Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, alluded to inquiries about the status of the RM100 million funding from the federal government.
“What the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim promised, we will track his promise,” he said.
On June 22, at the state-level Gawai Dayak gala dinner here, Anwar announced that he will instruct the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to immediately channel RM100 million to the Sarawak government as reimbursement for the funds allocated for repairing and upgrading dilapidated schools and clinics in the state.
The Finance Minister said this after Abang Johari’s remarks that the Sarawak government has allocated RM200 million for repairing and upgrading dilapidated schools and clinics.
“Since RM200 million was mentioned (by Premier earlier), this Monday (June 24), I will instruct the MOF to release RM100 million so it can be utilised without any issues,” said Anwar.
