THE Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts will continue to enhance the development of the sports industry in Sarawak.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this will be done in tandem with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which is to grow Sarawak’s economy by eight per cent per annum, whereby tourism is one of the six economic sectors.

“My ministry will continuously pave for a greater development of Sarawak sports industry such as World Boxing Confederation (WBC) Championship, Spartan Race, Deka Fit, World Junior Team Competition Under-14 and many more.

“In addition to these initiatives, smart partnerships with our local sports non-governmental organizations (NGO) enabled several international sports event to be hosted in Sarawak.

He said among the upcoming sports event to be held in the state includes the Sarawak International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship 2024.

“This is schedule to be held on June 10 – 15 in Kuching. This international event will be hosted by the Sarawak Amateur Bowling Association, which is sanctioned by the International Bowling Federation.”

“Tentatively, the LTDL Stage Seven will be from Miri to Bintulu with a total distance of 199.3km, while Stage Eight is the Bintulu loop covering a total distance of 166.8km.

“Having given two of its final stages this year, my ministry hopes that the Sarawak race route will continue to be featured in the next LTDL upcoming races,” he added.
