KUCHING: The Sarawak government will soon set up International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS University) near Kampung Trombol in Telaga Air.
According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the setting up is in line with its efforts to produce a knowledgeable ummah or society in the state.
He said the Sarawak government would provide scholarship and study loans for students who have financial issues to further their studies.
“If the problem to further the studies is scholarships, we will provide scholarship and study loans through Yayasan Sarawak, to make it easier for the students to further their studies in the university,” he said.
Speaking at the 61st Sarawak State Level Al-Quran Recitation Ceremony at Sarawak Islamic Complex MAJMA Hall yesterday, Abang Johari said the university would focus on offering various programmes, especially those related with technology.
“This (the university) is in line with the desire to make Sarawak a developed state by 2030,” he mentioned.
Abang Johari said several universities have been set up in Sarawak, such as Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UCTS), Sarawak International College of Advanced Technology (i-Cats) as well as Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus and Curtin University.
“With the trust and confidence of the people of Sarawak in the current government, we are determined to elevate the state to be a high-income and developed state with a more structured economy and our position is respected by others,” he said.
