BERGEN: The Sarawak government will examine international protocols relating to carbon trading to ensure that policies can be effectively implemented.
TVS reported Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as saying that there is no clear specialisation on the import and export of carbon to be stored in the state.
Therefore, he said, Sarawak will collaborate with oil and gas companies to study matters concerning the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS).
“I will meet with Shell’s top officials in London and work with oil companies on issues related to CCS development.
“There is no clear protocol regarding the export and import of carbon to be stored in our state,” he said.
Abang Johari was speaking at a dinner organised by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) in yesterday (Aug 23).
Abang Johari is leading the Sarawak delegation to Norway on a two-day working visit to CCS facilities there, including the Northern Lights CCS facility in Oslo.
He is scheduled to meet Shell’s top officials at the multinational’s headquarters in London to discuss on CCS development.
Abang Johari invited industry players to Sarawak, especially those from Norway, who are interested in establishing CCS facilities in the state.
“Perhaps you can come to Sarawak and build facilities there together with us, at least in principle,” he said.
