BAU: The Sarawak government will submit a proposal for the construction of a border security road network along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border to the federal government for inclusion in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the border security road network, which covers a stretch of about 1,000km, was crucially needed for the safety and security of the state and the country.

“As Indonesia has announced to move its capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, in terms of security, we need to build this network all the way from the south to the northern part of Sarawak.

“So this is already in the pipeline, we are planning to put it up to the federal government for consideration,” he said during the earth-breaking ceremony for the Tasik Biru Pedestrian Bridge and the annual Tasik Biru Festival here yesterday.

He said construction of the border security road network would be costly.

“As such, this is not only the responsibility of the Sarawak government but also the Malaysian government because we are part of Malaysia.

“And we hope when the border security road is built, in the long run, it will impact nearby towns. I feel among the towns that can benefit in terms of its socio-economy include Bau,” he pointed out.

He added with state government’s plans to build the coastal roads, Pan Borneo Highway, border security road, the future of Bau would be bright in the years to come.

“We see the importance and necessity to have all these infrastructures in place because we want the whole of Sarawak to be fully connected, as far as possible, we want everybody from rural to urban to be connected,” Julaihi stressed.
